TESTIMONIALS

What an incredible spot and truly beautiful accommodation. Absolutely perfect for a family holiday with our son who uses a wheelchair. The front window where we could bird watch, the very detailed recommendations of accessible walks we could take, the welcome package, the location.. all of it was simply perfect. Highly recommend and we will absolutely be back. LOVED it!! Thank you

Shady Gums was one of the most magical properties I have stayed in. While we didn’t have any mobility limitations, the house is perfectly designed to assist people and families that have special needs or require mobility assistance. Every little element was so well thought of, from the dining table being accessible to the bedroom and bath having hoist abilities. As someone who has family with special needs, it was really heartwarming to be there, to see how it can be done and how it should be done elsewhere. From the little gift pack, staples in the pantry to the bath salts provided, everything is thought of. The house itself is nestled just off the main road, amongst the spectacular Grampians. The smells, sights and sounds of all of the nature around us, really hit the spot and was what we needed after a long run in lockdowns. Communication was brilliant, Andrew was always quick to respond and has thought of everything, even providing instructional videos. I would not hesitate to stay at Shady Gums again, in fact, I’m working on my dates now

Thankyou for allowing us to stay at your wonderful Accessible House. Often accomodation adverts promise a lot, but well, don’t live up to the hype. Shady Gums not only delivers excellent disabled accommodation with wide hallways & doors, spacious bathrooms and a kitchen, dining, lounge & deck area, all catering to wheelchair users and all in a wonderful setting as well.
There was a ceiling lifting hoist & railing in the Spa room and bedroom, also board games, maps of the area and books to read if the weather turns. You even had a local bird collage to help you identify the birds that can be seen from the picture window.
We had a wonderful time exploring the area, using the accessible tracks and utilising thelocal eateries. There was so much to do we didn’t get to do it all and will be returning soon to continue.
Again thank you for the fantastic accommodation.

“It was the first time my daughter (20 yrs old, uses carer assisted wheelchair) and I have stayed in properly fully accessible accommodation and it was so thoughtfully appointed. I could tell as a carer that it had been set up by carers. From the ramps, adjustable beds and couch, to the ceiling hoist and the AMAZING bath (Ella loved it so much, she had one everyday), to the welcome package and just the thoughtful extension on diner table so a wheelchair user can sit up at the table with their family, the house made us so comfortable, relaxed and welcomed.”

We have just had four days staying at Shady Gums in Halls Gap in the Grampians, Vic Australia.Shady Gums is an exceptional place to stay whether you are disabled or not. As a wheelchair user the facilities and accommodation offered by this property are outstanding. We have to say that this is the best accommodation we have stayed in for wheelchair users. Even if you’re not disabled this is the best place we have ever stayed in .There are two bedrooms,Two bathrooms. One with a spa bath. The other has a large wheel in shower. They accomodate five. The quality of the apppliances are top of the range. We wish there were more places like this in the world to visit and stay.

There is absolutely nothing you want for in this property, including board games television.picnic backpack, including information on all accessible trails and walks in The Grampians. This truly a fully accessible place to have a wonderful holiday. So many places say that they are wheelchair accessible and when you arrive aren’t.This place exceeds expectations. It truly is an amazing place. We can’t wait to go again. This place should be used to show case how & what to do to cater for disability with accommodation.

So welcoming including a welcome basket on arrival.

Thank you Andrew & Norelle.

I would love to leave a review, Shady gums exceeded our expectation of accessibility and if you didn’t think of something it is already thought for you.

The detail in the building design to the soft furnishings around the house to make us feel at home. The pictures don’t do justice but how can you describe comfort in images, you will just have to experience for yourself. Wait until you try Kels Malt balls, they are better than maltesers and are a yummy touch. Very happy with our stay

“The house is perfect. It is so well designed and comfortable. We had such a relaxing time. There is lots of information about walking, wildlife and things to do in the area. The house was incredibly clean (one of the cleanest Airbnbs we’ve stayed in). The location is great. The house is surrounded by bush and is far enough from the centre of town, and other houses, so that it is nice and quiet. We would definitely stay here again.”

Shadygums is an amazing holiday home for all abilities, with everyone and everything considered.

Shadygums is by far the best holiday home in Halls Gap, that we have stayed in over the last 10 years and we strongly recommend Shadygums to any future travellers to the Halls Gap region.

WOW is all I can say, Shady Gums is wonderful, we had a great time.

We cooked on the first night and found the kitchen was well equipped and appliances were easy to use. The beds were very comfortable and were easy to operate. We used both the high chair and cot and found them very suitable. I found the toys and the kids enjoyed playing with them so much I also enjoyed reading them the books. We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Shady Gums it was peaceful and enjoyed the local wildlife (the kids loved the birds). We also enjoyed the luxury spa, beds and could easily get to local attractions walking.

We loved its tranquillity & setting and Spotlessly clean.

We loved the open-plan kitchen/family room with windows that bring the outside in and sitting on the couch watching the little birds come for their feed with a gentle waterfall serenading them. Loved sitting around fire-pit relaxing.

Loved the accessibility & well-planned ramps, walk-in shower, sensor lights.

Shady Gums is a very relaxing place to stay. Even in cold wet weather like we had, it was so nice to just sit by the warm fire and watch the wildlife outside the big bay window. It is situated just far enough out of the busy town centre to feel like we are really in the bush, but not too far if you want to walk or cycle into town. All our needs were well catered for. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating. We were sad when it was time to leave.
